Giancarlo Mata

Animator, Concept Artist, Director, Storyboarder, Seer

I am an artist primarily focused on working in entertainment as an animator. I specialize in rough character animation, storyboarding, and character design. I am also experienced in illustration and 3d modeling. As a digital artist, the programs I have used are Adobe Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, Toon Boom Harmony, and Autodesk Maya.

Ever since elementary school, it was always the cartoons of my childhood that inspired me to draw. Then I discovered anime and all the sites where people post their works like DeviantArt and Art Station, and then it all went downhill from there.

My biggest inspirations for animation have been the anime produced by Studio TRIGGER, MAPPA, as well as anything directed by Masaaki Yuasa. I've also been influenced by the amazing animation of fighting games such as Street Fighter 3: Third Strike and Skullgirls.

Outside of art, I'm very interested in anything having to do with mythology, fairy tales and urban legends, which also retroactively influence my personal work.

Whenever I work, whether it be 2D animation or any personal art, I tend to want to veer off however I might have planned things originally. I always like to try different camera angle or fun actions I may have tried little in the past or not tried at all, which I feel would make the product more cool or interesting. With a constant stream of ideas flowing through my head, I always try to push the envelope with what I work on.
